Milestone Moment: Coleson

July 2024: Coleson has made incredible progress in physical, occupational and speech therapy!

Coleson first began therapy at PMC four years ago, and has made amazing progress in physical, occupational and speech therapy!

In Physical Therapy, he has met multiple milestones in gross motor skills, balance and coordination. From counting his first independent steps to walking independently both on land and in the pool, Coleson is currently working on going up and down the stairs and running!

In Occupational Therapy, Coleson has worked with Stephanie Baldwin, OT, from the very start! During his time in OT he has met many incredible milestones: from sitting to crawling, standing, walking, and now running. He recently achieved the ability to feed himself with a spoon and fork, and is learning to write his own name and use scissors.

In Speech Therapy, Coleson began working on imitating sounds and trying to say single words. Now he is able to spontaneously communicate in 4-6 word sentences, understand concepts and follow multi-step directions.

From Coleson's mom:

"All of the therapists here are amazing. Coleson has has Steph from the beginning. He started walking independently a year ago, and now he is saying something new every day! The other day when we were in Target, he wanted to walk with his sister rather than sit in the cart. Coleson would not be where he is today without PMC!"

We are so proud of you, Coleson! Thank you so much for being a part of the PMC family!

Think your child is "just" clumsy? They may have Developmental Coordination Disorder, DCD, an infrequently known, but very treatable condition that affects 5%-6% of school aged children! Medical specialists, such as pediatric physical therapists, pediatric occupational therapists, and neurologists can help address the underlying nervous system and muscular issues contributing to DCD.
