PMC ALL STAR: Dylann

"Dylann is one of the hardest workers in our classes! She started joining parts of my Inspired Movement (adaptive class) on Wednesdays last year during her physical therapy appointment- she always wanted to try the jumps and tricks the other girls in my class were doing and did great with our obstacle courses. After getting used to the structure of our class and approaching 'graduation' from physical therapy Ms.Tina was able to adapt the class to meet Dylann's therapeutic goals so that she could join the whole class with us. Dylann gained so much strength and was quickly able to kick her legs over her head into a handstand. Now that she has fully graduated physical therapy she joined our juniors gymnastics class! She is doing absolutely amazing! She follows the class structure, tries her hardest always, and wants to help others the whole class. Dylann has great jumps, handstands and rolls - and is learning her cartwheel!" -Emily F. (Community Wellness Manager)

"Our family is forever grateful for PMC. Dylann started physical therapy when she was a toddler.  Her mobility was limited and her endurance was low. She started working with Ms. Tina and she just took off. Even through a kidney transplant and then COVID, Tina continued to push Dylann to her full potential. Now she is a strong 7 year old who loves to run, play hockey and has recently joined the junior gymnastics at PMC, with high hopes of participating in the Special Olympics one day!

I wasn’t sure my daughter would ever be able to keep up with the kids at school, ice skate or do cartwheels but here we are. We definitely wouldn’t be here without Ms. Tina and the PMC family!"

We are beyond proud of you Dylann - keep on pushing through those boundaries and being amazing!

Engaging in play is understood to be a vital part of a child’s healthy development. However, according to research, many traditional playground layouts marginalize children with disabilities, whether they be physical, neurological or intellectual. Many communities are coming together to advocate for inclusive playgrounds: playgrounds that are not merely accessible for individuals with disabilities, but built for them to enjoy.
